Berry Plastics is expanding its portfolio of soft products, bringing new capabilities and innovations to its European product portfolio. These developments have been made possible through multiple acquisitions and development initiatives. The products being launched include Airten 22-S premium air through bonded nonwovens for topsheet and backsheet applications; Kamisoft Advanced, a soft bonded nonwoven for a number of hygiene product component applications and NG S-Tex, enhanced proprietary technology providing differentiated superior visual softness based on higher opacity and uniformity ideal for botanicals and printing needs. With a continuous commitment to innovation, Berry is also developing 3D Airten, a high-end material for the next level of softness and bulk with fully customizable 3D texture patterns. The company expects to release this product in the next six to 12 months. Its soft calendered landing zone portfolio, which is being made in Nueville, France, is also being expanded. “Consumers are expecting more and more from their hygiene products today. The requirements put on our customers to meet these high expectations in unique and value added ways are a constant challenge,” says Sean Imlay, vice president, global hygiene, Berry Plastics Health, Hygiene and Specialties Division. “The global portfolio assembled by Berry Plastics is unmatched in the industry in its variety and truly offers somethng for every need.” In other news, Berry provided an update on the progress of its recent European investments. The company is in the process of adding about $20 million worth of new carding capabilities in Terno d’Isola, Italy. This new line, serving the global hygiene market, is scheduled to be up and running in the near term and will allow Berry to provide innovations in topsheets, backsheets and acquisition/distribution layers through advanced air through bond and thermal bond technologies. This multilayer technology responds to the needs for increased specialization in hygiene products, says Jean-Marc Galvez, president of Berry’s Health, Hygiene and Specialities Division for the Europe, Middle East, India and Africa region.
